{"id":633,"date":"2024-04-24T14:33:47","date_gmt":"2024-04-24T12:33:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gilmotorsport.com\/english\/?page_id=633"},"modified":"2024-04-24T17:37:49","modified_gmt":"2024-04-24T15:37:49","slug":"the-rest-of-the-gil-motor-sport-story","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.gilmotorsport.com\/english\/the-rest-of-the-gil-motor-sport-story\/","title":{"rendered":"The rest of the Gil Motor Sport story"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr \/>\n<h2>Phillip Island in Australia, 4th March 2007<\/h2>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<span class=\"dropcap1\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">H<\/span><\/span>istoric date for Team <em>Gil Motor Sport<\/em> which won its first victory in the World Championship, only 25 months after its creation.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, regularly beating teams who have, for some, more than fifteen years of experience is a source of great pride for the young Team <em>Gil Motor Sport<\/em> which was just beginning its third season in the World Championship.<\/p>\n<p>After a good 2007 season, the manufacturer Kawasaki reiterates its confidence in <em>Gil Motor Sport<\/em> to represent it in the Supersport World Championship in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>To continue with the same victory objectives, <em>Kawasaki-Gil Motor Sport<\/em> called on the renowned British rider Chris Walker, with his immense experience in the Superbike and Moto GP World Championship.<\/p>\n<div class=\"one_half\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-87\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gilmotorsport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/fabien-foret-victoire-philip-island-gil-motor-sport.jpg\" alt=\"fabien-foret-victoire-philip-island-gil-motor-sport\" width=\"322\" height=\"500\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"one_half last\" align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-101\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gilmotorsport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/katsuaki-fujiwara-gil-motor-sport-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"katsuaki-fujiwara-gil-motor-sport\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/div>\n<p>4th in the 2007 World Supersport championship and the most experienced rider in this category currently, the Japanese Katsuaki Fujiwara is a strong link whose services <em>Kawasaki-Gil Motor Sport<\/em> had to secure to remain in line with its objective. Unfortunately, the 2008 season will not bring the same satisfaction as the 2007 season&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>On 25th June 2008, during a meeting between Kawasaki Motors Europe and <em>Gil Motor Sport<\/em>, the manufacturer Kawasaki did not hold <em>Gil Motor Sport<\/em> responsible for the results of the 2008 season and confirmed to <em>Gil Motor Sport<\/em> that KME was counting on <em>Gil Motor Sport<\/em> to continue to represent them in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>On 25th July 2008, <em>Gil Motor Sport<\/em>, strongly interested in the future Moto 2 program of the Dorna Championship for which the regulations have not yet been established, asked the manufacturer Kawasaki to avail itself of the services of another team to represent it. in Supersport from 2009.<\/p>\n<p>In view of the very good relations between the manufacturer Kawasaki and <em>Gil Motor Sport<\/em>, Kawasaki Motors Europe Department France asked <em>Gil Motor Sport<\/em> on September 18, 2008 for the team to take charge of the official Kawasaki program for the World Endurance Championship.<\/p>\n<div class=\"one_half\" align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1431\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gilmotorsport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/j-f-balde-signe-avec-gms-300x213.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"213\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"one_half last\">During the 2008 season, the Kawasaki manufacturer not wishing to have more than two official riders within the <em>Kawasaki-Gil Motor Sport<\/em> structure, Jean-Christophe Ponsson decided to create a second structure called <em>Gil Motor Sport-Solution F<\/em> which will be in in charge of the Supersport world championship program which will feature the 2002 GP125 World Champion Arnaud Vincent.<br \/>\nTo manage this team Jean-Christophe Ponsson will call on the 1981 GP250 Vice-World Champion, Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Bald\u00e9, who will therefore be assigned the role of Team Manager.<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Agreements were then made between KMEF and Gil Motor Sport for the 2009 season<\/h2>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<span class=\"dropcap1\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">O<\/span><\/span>n 31st December 2008, Jean-Christophe Ponsson was informed that the manufacturer Kawasaki had officially declared its withdrawal from Moto GP with immediate effect. From then on, Jean-Christophe Ponsson positioned himself towards Dorna as a potential buyer of the Kawasaki Moto GP program. Very quickly, discussions took place between Dorna, those responsible for Kawasaki Heavy Industries and <em>Gil Motor Sport<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"one_half\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-111\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gilmotorsport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/accords-kawasaki-gil-motor-sport-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"accords-kawasaki-gil-motor-sport\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"one_half last\">\n<p>After a long meeting on 1st February 2009, between <em>KHI<\/em> and <em>Gil Motor Sport<\/em>, a memorandum of understanding was drawn up between them stipulating that from 2009 <em>Gil Motor Sport<\/em> will take charge of the Kawasaki Moto GP program and will run Marco Melandri and John Hopkins.<\/p>\n<p>While<em> Gil Motor Sport<\/em> was preparing for this new challenge, it was a huge disappointment for the team to receive an email from <em>KHI<\/em> on 10th February 2009, which put an end to the protocol of 1st February 2009. The future will demonstrate that <em>KHI<\/em> &#8216;is geared towards a single rider option.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Knowing how to bounce back and adapt<\/h2>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<span class=\"dropcap1\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">D<\/span><\/span>espite this disappointment, Jean-Christophe Ponsson wishes to be positive. He is all the more motivated to have a program in Moto 2, according to regulations, see in Moto GP from 2010.
