WORLD SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP AT ARAGON CIRCUIT IN SPAIN

WORLD SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP AT ARAGON CIRCUIT IN SPAIN

From 20 to 23 May 2021 it was the 1st round of the World Superbike Championship at the Aragon circuit in Spain 🇪🇸

Year after year, the World Superbike Championship continues to grow. Out of the 23 participants in Aragon, there were 16 bikes estimated with the official support of the manufacturers and new drivers from MotoGP. Alstare-Yamaha with the emblematic Francis Batta who can only be applauded because he is still the only Paddock Team Manager to have won the titles of European Champion 600Superstock, World Cup 1000Superstock, Supersport World Championship and Superbike, be all categorie!

For a very long time he thought that motorcycle racing was an individual sport since only the driver had to make the difference with his material from the production, starting from the base of a motorcycle of the series modified to make a Superbike.

Already at the time it was a mistake, motorcycle racing has always been a team sport, but we can say it even more today because these new Superbikes are more prototype bikes MotoGP style than production bikes yet initial to the category.

It is therefore the alchemy of the association of a powerful equipment, with the know-how of a technical team and a good driver that the performance will be at the rendezvous.

The level of this 2021 World Superbike season is announced by the middle as the highest for several years.

Young rider Christophe Ponsson #23 will have to fight his way among this elite of the motorcycle sport.

Free Practice 1:

The race weekend has started well, Christophe Ponsson finishes this 1st session of Friday morning at 2'000 seconds from the best time of the session of the Turkish rider T.Razgatlioglu official Yamaha who starts his 2nd season on the handlebars of his factory Yamaha and 0'050 seconds of the Italian rider Supersport World Champion 2020 A.Locatelli official Yamaha also

Free Practice 2:

Our driver Christophe Ponsson has left with the same settings as the FP1, however between the morning and the afternoon 10° difference and Christophe does not have the same feeling with his morning Yamaha. Too bad Christophe ends up falling and his 2nd session of Friday is cut short. A loss of grip from the front without gravity fortunately for him but his bike could not resume the track. The best time of the session was achieved by the English driver C.Devies in 1'50.400 on his Ducati. So on this session ended prematurely for our driver, Christophe Ponsson is 3'193 from C.Devies, 2'391 from T.Razgatlioglu and 1'812 from A.Locatelli, of which these 2 are our reference drivers since they are the 2 factory drivers Official Yamaha.

Free Practice 3:

The bike repaired from the previous day’s crash must first be validated on the track. Although we find the temperatures of the FP1, a complicated session, Christophe does not find the same feeling. The best time of this FP3 was achieved by the official Yamaha T.Razgatlioglu driver in 1'49.695. Christophe finished 3'241 behind the latter and 2'469 behind the other Official Yamaha A.Locatelli.

Superpole Qualification:

Nice qualifying session for our driver Christophe Ponsson who ranks 17th of this session qualifies at 2'031 of the English rider J.Rea 6 times Superbike World Champion 👏 who achieves the pole position in 1'48.458 on his Kawasaki. The Yamaha officials are respectively 10th for T.Razgatlioglu and 14th for A.Locatelli. In the end in this qualifying session Christophe finishes 0'785 from the T.Razgatlioglu driver and 0'527 from the A.

Race 1:

17th of this very first race of the season is finally not so bad considering the feeling problems encountered in the previous sessions in tyre racing version. The winner is the official Kawasaki J.Rea, T.Razgatlioglu on Yamaha factory is 3rd, A.Locatti Official Yamaha driver also is 10th.

Warm Up:

Christophe Ponsson has never ridden in the rain with this brand new Superbike and it’s raining in Aragon this Sunday. The Warm Up was therefore very important to do in good conditions and its entirety to prepare as best as possible the 2 other races that follow in the rain! At the end of the 3rd lap Christophe decides to return because he avoided the crash 5 times. Back at the box he explains to these mechanics that there is an electronic problem! Very quickly they noticed that the gomiste had not mounted the sensors that manage the assistance. Riding a motorcycle without an electronic assist is still possible, but getting off the ground when the other 22 competitors are under electronic assistance, with today’s Superbikes that has become impossible.

Superpole Race:

During the training round to get to the pre-grid in rain tyre, the driver Christophe Ponsson realizes like these competitors that there are zones sow of the circuit. When he arrived on the starting grid, he asked for the mixed Intermediate tyre, but it had not been brought by these technicians. Too bad because almost all of the drivers have gone on an intermediate mixed tyre. Christophe and his Yamaha will finish this Superpole race in 19th place with rain tyres completely destroyed. The official British rider Kawasaki J.Rea wins this round.

Race 2:

The same weather conditions as the Superpole race, Christophe will start the race on an intermediate mixed tyre and finish the race in 15th place and thus score his first point in the championship. The official English Ducati S.Redding will win this race which had made the bet to start with Slick tyre in the back.

End of the race weekend in Aragon and start in the wake of the second round of the Championship at the Estoril circuit in Portugal.
