GIL MOTOR SPORT-YAMAHA STOPS ITS COMMITMENT TO WORDSBK

GIL MOTOR SPORT-YAMAHA STOPS ITS COMMITMENT TO WORDSBK

At the end of the last Superbike race of the Portuguese round at the Portimao circuit on October 9, the Gil Motor Sport-Yamaha team dismantled its box for the last time of the season.

Team Owner Jean-Christophe Ponsson :

I made my decision to stop the team during the Italian event in Misano on June 11. In November 2020 when ordering the 2 R1-WSBK Customer Competitions + engines and equipment from Yamaha, Gil Motor Sport announced that its objective was to do a minimum of 2 seasons and that given the equipment ordered we could even calmly consider a possible 3rd season.

As usual, Gil Motor Sport respected all its commitments since we completed the 2 seasons announced, the entire 2021 Championship and the 9 European events of WordSBK 2022 contractually planned between the team, Dorna and Yamaha.

Now we are at the time of taking inventories of all WSBK-Yamaha and WSBK-Gil Motor Sport equipment, because everything is for sale.

Gil Motor Sport is not stopping these involvements in motor sports, but will simply do it differently.
I would particularly like to congratulate our rider Christophe Ponsson, my son, who has been riding since the Misano race with his injury, who started each race weekend knowing that it was going to be complicated then painful and with the repeated instructions from his surgeon to do not fall on your right shoulder !
Riders are known to be warriors and he was no exception to the rule. In december he will have surgery to remove the equipment. In the meantime, he prioritizes his recovery and his future.
