World Superbike Championship at the Aragon Circuit Spain 🇪🇸

World Superbike Championship at the Aragon Circuit Spain 🇪🇸

Many regrets about the first Spanish round of the Superbike World Championship at the Motorland circuit in Aragon from 07 to 10 April 2022.

Indeed, Gil Motor Sport did however perform good winter tests, starting with Portimao in Portugal, Aragon in Spain, then Misano in Italy with a second day that saw the unexpected arrival for the Gil Motor Sport team of the new electronic 2022, which changed a lot of the bike’s parameters, so in the end, Gil Motor Sport and his driver left Misano with very few laps with this new electronics that will have to be developed in the tests of Estoril in Portugal before the start of the season.

No luck, because the 2 days of tests of Estoril took place in the rain and unfortunately, it takes dry to work this new electronics.
Then everything is to be done at the 2-day test organised by the Dorna WorldSBK in the opening of the season at the Aragon circuit on 4 and 5 April.
Finally, dry in Aragon which allowed the pilot to confirm the problem of this new 2022 electronics on our 2020/2021 design equipment.
The driver Christophe Ponsson asks to go back to his 2021 electronics, which has been completed for his package.
Unfortunately a very big fall on the first day of the tests destroyed the bike that had to be rebuilt. At the beginning of the season like many other teams all the new parts ordered during the winter have not yet arrived, so it is very difficult for the technical team to redo our best bike.

The race weekend in Aragon promises to be very complicated and this is confirmed at the FP1 on Friday morning. The 2021 Superbike World Champion Toprak Razgatliglu, Yamaha factory rider, is the fastest rider of this first session in 1’50.025 or 3’217 seconds ahead of the Gil Motor Sport driver, FP2 + 3’088, FP3 + 2’016 and in the first race of the weekendSpanish end with + 2’701 seconds.
At the end of this first Spanish race and a final meeting, the team decided to go back to electronics 2021 between the Saturday and Sunday races.

The Gil Motor Sport rider gradually regains his 2021 Yamaha and in the second race will have his best time at 1’916 seconds from the official Yamaha Superbike champion.

Conclusion:
The arrival of the 2022 electronics has very disturbed the team to the point that this did not allow its driver Christophe Ponsson to repeat his best time of the 2021 season!… So a weekend to forget but you have to learn a lesson to not waste more weekend races.

Next event at the Assen circuit in the Netherlands from 21 to 24 April 2022
