World Superbike Championship Donington Park – England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Lyon driver Christophe Ponsson returns to Donington Park, just 3 weeks after his delicate operation on his right collarbone.

The race weekend which has been announced in all very difficult ways, the Gil Motor Sport-Yamaha driver was well aware that he was not at 100% of his abilities to compete with his competitors, but its objective was to evaluate the stage of his rehabilitation on a full scale and to see the possible modifications to be made for the round of the Czech Republic in the Czech Republic.

First of all, when he arrived at the circuit, nothing was certain that Christophe Ponsson could take part in the event, he had to first go to the circuit’s mobile clinic to pass exams and tests in order to obtain permission to ride by the medical staff. The trials passed successfully but could not make him forget his injury.

FP1, FP2, FP3 then Superpole, Of course complicated, however very honourable times compared to the situation, Christophe drives even faster than these times of last season! During the FP3, Christophe tries to do several quick laps and quickly understands that he will certainly not be able to finish race 1 on Saturday afternoon.

Race 1: The Gil Motor Sport-Yamaha driver took the start of the race very bravely, and then finally, unsurprisingly, will make the decision on lap 13 to retire.

Indeed, each turn that passes, his arm becomes more and more tetanized and he lacks more and more strength to brake his machine. There is no need to take risks for him and the other pilots. Christophe returns to the box and goes to the mobile clinic to be declared unfit for the 2 races on Sunday.

Conclusion: there is no regret to have come to Donington Park, because this allowed Christophe and his coach Randy de Puniet, as well as the medical team, to note a muscle failure that will have to be worked before the next race at the Most circuit in the Czech Republic.

The positive point of course is to have detected the muscular problem, but also to note that the determination of Christophe despite his injury allowed him to perform about ten laps in contact with 6 drivers at 100% of their physical means. So some regrets all the same because no doubt that at 100% of his physical means, Christophe would have scored points in British land.
